Aylesbury Vale Academy

Freidman was recently awarded a contract to deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance, Care-taking and Security Services at Aylesbury Vale Academy.


Aylesbury Vale Academy (AVA), a Church of England School, was Buckinghamshire’s first Academy. AVA recently achieved a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and has a capacity of 1700 pupils. AVA is located on the same site as their primary school, covering a combined area of 10,268m².

The Challenge

Aylesbury Vale Academy was looking for a Contractor who would deliver a high standard of services across the Academy. Whilst ensuring the safety of their pupils is top priority, the Academy were also looking to improve services and reduce costs whilst ensuring statutory compliance.

Our Involvement

Our in house Site Manager and caretaking team, supported by our mobile technical specialists and specialist sub-contractors to deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance services in accordance with SFG 20. We deliver a 24-hour support and emergency response service which is managed through our Help desk. We also deliver handyman services, moves & space management, pest control, keyholder services, gritting and snow clearance and delivery management.

Supporting the Leadership Team During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, AVA has remained open for a smaller number of children and certain year groups.

Our caretaking team have supported AVA by:
- Advising teaching staff on space planning options, moving furniture within classrooms and common areas to encourage social distancing
- Placing signage around both schools, on walls and doors and arrows on floors to encourage pupils to maintain a sensible distance from their peers when lining up, etc.
- Providing caretaking support during bank holidays to support teaching staff who were caring for key-worker children
- Making protective face masks to support the local community.

Whilst it hasn’t been the easiest task starting a new contract during a pandemic, our support team has been busy developing and mentoring our new starters, ensuring that they have completed all necessary H&S and job-related training. The on-site team have also undergone Supervisory Management courses to support them in leading their team effectively.

Our maintenance teams have also been carrying out planned maintenance to ensure that all HVAC and M&E installations are operating effectively to ensure statutory compliance despite COVID-19 restrictions.
